Wind energy lifting solutions must now handle larger components, heavier loads and more demanding manufacturing and maintenance operations.
Driven by China's carbon-peaking and carbon-neutrality goals, the wind power industry continues to expand. By the end of 2025, China's cumulative grid-connected wind power capacity had exceeded 400 GW, while its offshore wind power capacity remained the largest in the world. Official data from China's National Energy Administration placed total wind power capacity at approximately 640 GW.
At the same time, turbines are becoming larger. Longer blades, taller towers and heavier nacelles create new lifting requirements across manufacturing, logistics and wind farm maintenance.
With more than 20 years of crane manufacturing experience and 299 patents, Nucleon has developed a coordinated range of wind energy lifting solutions covering the complete process from component production to field maintenance.
Wind Energy Lifting Solutions for Five Core Applications
Nucleon's approach is not simply to combine several crane products. Each solution is configured around the lifting demands of a specific stage in the wind power industry.
1. Wind Turbine Blade Manufacturing

Blade manufacturing requires large working coverage, synchronized lifting and controlled movement to open, close, turn and release blade molds.
Nucleon configures double-girder overhead cranes with:
- Lifting capacities from 50 to 200 t
- Spans from 30 to 60 m
- Vector variable-frequency control
- Dual-trolley synchronized lifting
- Anti-sway control
- Customized lifting beams based on the mold's center of gravity
These systems are designed to support stable mold handling while reducing the risk of damage to composite blade structures.
2. Wind Turbine Tower Manufacturing

Tower production includes steel-plate rolling, welding, flange assembly, section alignment and outdoor handling.
Nucleon combines double-girder overhead cranes and gantry cranes with capacities from 10 to 350 t. Multi-crane synchronized lifting can be used to handle and align tower sections during flange connection.
A7–A8 duty configurations support frequent heavy-duty operation. Outdoor gantry cranes use wind-resistant structures for storage yards and preassembly areas.
3. Nacelle and Generator Assembly

Gearboxes, generators, main shafts and other nacelle components require heavy lifting with controlled positioning.
Winch-type double-girder overhead cranes with capacities from 5 to 320 t can be configured for these assembly operations. Available functions include:
- Variable-frequency lifting and traveling
- Anti-sway control
- Real-time load monitoring
- Brake-status monitoring
- Remote diagnostics
- Fault warnings and maintenance support
- Modular lifting attachments
These functions help coordinate the lifting and positioning of heavy nacelle components during assembly.
4. Outdoor Storage and Wind Component Logistics

Wind turbine blades, tower sections and nacelles must be stored, transferred and loaded for transportation.
Nucleon combines gantry cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes and customized transport equipment with capacities from 35 to 200 t.
Its multifunctional blade straddle carrier uses PLC control and hydraulic drive to support lifting, traveling and turning operations. Configurations are available for handling blades between 40 and 120 m long.
Electric and hybrid drive options can also be selected according to the operating area and energy requirements.
5. Wind Farm Maintenance

As more wind turbines enter regular maintenance cycles, gearboxes, generators and blades increasingly require inspection, repair and replacement.
Nucleon's patented self-climbing wind turbine maintenance crane provides an alternative to deploying a large crawler crane for certain maintenance tasks.
The system combines a self-climbing hydraulic platform with a high-lift articulated crane. Published configurations include:
- Rated capacities of 8 or 12 t
- Lifting heights of 80 or 100 m
- Applications on turbines with tower heights from 60 to 85 m
- Electro-hydraulic drive
- Safety monitoring and protection
- Hydraulic and mechanical interlocking
The NHC electric chain hoist is also available for maintenance inside confined nacelle spaces. Nucleon lists capacities from 80 kg to 20 t, M5+ duty capability, IP55 protection and a wide operating-temperature range.

Technologies Supporting Wind Energy Lifting Solutions
Intelligent Control and Anti-Sway Functions
Nucleon combines vector variable-frequency drive technology with anti-sway and positioning control.
Depending on the crane configuration, the control system can monitor lifting loads, traveling speeds, brake status, voltage and current. It can also record operating and fault data for later analysis.
Low-Noise Drive Systems
Nucleon's modular drive systems are designed to reduce operating noise and maintenance requirements.
The company states that selected drive configurations operate below 70 dB. Hardened gear reducers and modular motor combinations support different lifting capacities and operating duties.
Modular Crane Design
Standardized main girders, end carriages, drives and hoisting mechanisms allow the crane configuration to be adapted to the workshop layout, production process and load characteristics.
PLM systems and 3D simulation are used during product development and engineering design.
Lightweight Structures
Nucleon applies structural optimization and finite-element analysis to its crane designs.
According to the company's published technical information, selected lightweight crane configurations can reduce crane weight, overall height and operating energy requirements while maintaining the structural performance required by the application.
Data-Based Maintenance
Nucleon integrates SAP-ERP, PLM, MES and CRM systems to connect design, manufacturing, product and service information.
Remote condition monitoring can support historical-data analysis, fault diagnosis, maintenance planning and spare-parts delivery.
Full-Lifecycle Support for Wind Power Projects
